Most important, of course, will be the participation of all you members of the Conscious Community. Each of us has his own Logic of Ecstacy. Each of us has received personal messages from the collective consciousness. And each of us has a tale to tell, some valuable advice to give, ideas to share. Someone can tell us about the proper way to prepare morning-glory seeds, and someone can whisper his insights into the approach of the Apocalypse. Everyone is eager to hear about new ways to Turn On, and we also welcome any fresh ideas concerning survival in the Subculture.
We would like to make this column an open forum for the expression of ideas and notions not having an outlet elsewhere. In particular, we want to emphasize the imaginative and the delightful. Rumors and recipes. Individual voices whispering in the Community's ear--and, hopefully, we may be able to cause a bit of communal laughter.

So, collate your notes, translate the non-verbal into a letter or a phone call, and let us know what's happening. Share your laughter and your mysteries with your water-brothers and your comrades.

Dick Alpert keeps assuring us that the Conscious Community is, like the iceberg, mostly submerged. There exists, we are told a great number of conscious, turned-on, and enlightened people hidden beneath the waves of anonymity on the Great Bourgeois Sea. If this is so (and we have every reason to believe that it is), there remains the big job of opening up lines of communication between the enlightened members of the American Middle-Class and the open Subcultural communities. In Los Angeles it took a crisis of monstrous proportions, and too many young skulls senselessly cracked to accomplish this much-needed joining together of the two separate elements of the American Enlightenment. One hopes that in the Bay Area we can all come to know each other well enough to be prepared for an emergency such as the one now taking place on Sunset.

At any rate, it seems that establishing means of effective communication is necessary, and we hope to hear from those of you who have kept "submerged" as well as from you who are members of the established underground communities.
